A lot of people that are planning on going to Kamchatka are interested when is the best time to go there and when is the rain season in Kamchatka.
First off, you should know that there is no such a thing as a rain/dry season in Kamchatka, because of its far location from the tropics. That’s why it’s pretty much impossible to predict if it will rain or not and what the weather will be like during your visit. The weather on Kamchatka is always changing and it really depends from day to day.
Probably the best you can do prior to the visit is to be prepared for a rain and bad weather. This way you’ll enjoy beautiful sunny days so much more!
The ideal time to go to Kamchatka is from July to September. Each of these months has its own cons – let’s take a closer look at them.
Kamchatka in July
July is the warmest month in Kamchatka, especially the second half of the month. The temperature during the day in July can go to as high as +35 ºC (over 90 ºF) but it doesn’t happen very often. An average temperature in July is +11ºC – + 15ºC, which is a nice and comfortable weather.
July is the best time to see some stunning floral landscapes in the foothills of the mountains and volcanoes. Also in July there is a much better chance to see a bear in the wildlife.
The cons of going to Kamchatka in July is that there are still a lot of snow in the mountains and hiking of some of the volcanoes might not be possible. For example, in the middle of July of 2015 Avachinsky volcano was covered with snow from the heights of over 1800m, which made it dangerous and complicated to hike to its peak.
Kamchatka in August
August is also a great time to go to Kamchatka. It’s not as warm as July, but the weather is still nice and mostly sunny (less rain and fogs).
The most of the snow in the foothills is gone by the beginning of August, which makes it easier to get to places. Also in August, more places are getting to be accessible by car.
Kamchatka in September
Beginning of autumn is a beautiful time to fly to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and explore the nature of the peninsula. An average temperature in September is like +6ºC – +12ºC . It’s a little bit cooler, which is actually a plus if you dressed appropriately.
September is a month with the least rain compared to July and August. Another plus of going to Kamchatka in September is that you won’t have to fight with mosquitoes, which are pretty annoying in the summer (I already mentioned that in the Kamchatka travel guide).
If you are a big on fishing then you have to visit Kamchatka in September, because it is the best time to do so. Beginning of autumn is the period of spawning of most types of a sea and river fish.
The best time to go to Kamchatka is during the warm months from July to September. Each of these months has its own beauty, cons and pros, and it’s up to you to pick the time when to visit this beautiful land of nature. I can guarantee you’ll be equally impressed with Kamchatka either you’ll be there in July, August or September.
